Helpful Lighting Information
Frequently Asked Questions
How much power do LED lights save compared to halogen lights?
LED lighting typically uses up to 80–90% less electricity than halogen lighting. In homes with multiple downlights, upgrading to LED can significantly reduce ongoing power costs.

Are LED lights safer than halogen lights?
Yes. LED lights run much cooler than halogen lights. Halogen downlights generate extreme heat and are a known fire risk in roof spaces. Upgrading to LED lighting helps reduce heat build-up and improve household safety.

Is it legal to change halogen lights to LED yourself?
No. In Queensland and across Australia, fixed lighting is part of the electrical installation and must be completed by a licensed electrician. DIY lighting work can be unsafe, non-compliant, and may void insurance.

Why can’t I just change the globes to LED?
Many older halogen systems use transformers and fittings that are not compatible with LED lighting. Incorrect replacements can cause flickering, failures, overheating, or electrical faults. We assess and upgrade fittings properly to ensure safe, reliable performance.

Do LED lights last longer than halogen lights?
Yes. Quality LED fittings can last 10–20 years, meaning fewer replacements, lower maintenance costs, and better long-term value for homeowners.

Can LED lights be dimmable or different colours?
Yes. LED lighting is available in different colour temperatures and can be fully dimmable when installed with compatible dimmers. We help select the right lighting for each room so it suits how the space is used.

Do LED lighting upgrades need to meet Australian Standards?
Yes. All lighting work must comply with Australian Standards, including correct fittings, clearances, and installation methods. All work we complete is installed safely and fully compliant.
Lighting Safety Tips & Helpful Information
Halogen downlights are a common fire risk
Halogen lights generate significant heat and have been linked to roof-space fires, especially near insulation. LED upgrades remove this risk and improve safety.

Hot or discoloured fittings are a warning sign
If your downlights feel extremely hot or show signs of discolouration, they are likely outdated and should be assessed by a licensed electrician.

LED upgrades can be done one room at a time
You don’t need to upgrade the whole house at once. Many homeowners start with kitchens, living areas, or bedrooms and upgrade progressively.

Professional lighting design makes a difference
Correct spacing, brightness, and colour temperature improve how a room looks and feels. Professional installation ensures lighting is practical, balanced, and comfortable.
